Two screens attached together can be very useful, Microsoft really had a good idea about making a very nice foldable phone. Creating a device like this really changed the face and how foldable phones might appear to people in the nearest future.
The surface duo has the basics Just as we expected especially on the hardware side, the hinge really works smoothly without much resistance to it; looking at that Alone would give you the peace of mind that you using a reliable device.
The body is well built and that's well accepted . Microsoft really went too far in trying create something like this, they don't address it to be an Android phone or pure tablet but just trying to cover it up into something different without compromising anything.
Discontinuation of the windows phones which also affected the windows Mobile operating system kind of took somethings away from Microsoft system especially anything that concerns smartphone or cell phone. Since Android and iOS took the smartphone market almost everything about windows Mobile is no longer remembered ; in that case the company has to focus more on building tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Windows phones are so good, both the software and hardware features move nicely ; somewhere along the line an unexpected event happened and it's no longer in existence.
Back to the surface duo, it was announced along side with the surface neo on their event in 2019. Alot of people really showed interest in the device because it's way very different from others on every aspect, first it a surface device which should be running windows os but instead Android os, Secondly it consists of the full functionality of a smartphone but not addressed as a mobile phone. When you compare it with the Samsung Galaxy fold , you'll definitely notice a huge difference.
The Galaxy fold looks more like a tablet when opened because you won't see a hinge or rather any hing joining two screens together but that's not the case with the surface duo.
PERSONAL OPINION
When I first saw the device ,the first thing that came to my mind was that Microsoft is gradually going back to mobile phone production ,along the line different thoughts started coming it from different sides; but after much contemplation I just concluded its a smartphone but the 8.1 inches size really shaked that thought.
The few things I held on to was the size, the 360° hinge and the cellular network connection. Another thing that came to mind was that it's a concept phone.
Seeing something like this for the first time breeds so many things within the minds of tech enthusiasts which makes them very curious and at same time drives them on to make more or seek for more information concerning that product on ground.
Since it's features an 8.1inche size it should be placed on tablet level, the company can't hide the fact that it's an Android device.
The 360 degree hinge settles some part of it,the other screen can be folded to the back thereby creating space for the other half which consists of the camera and other important parts used for making calls.
Let's just say it's a tablet simply because of it size, this device is really slim and well built, multi tasking just got better and convenient .
The gadget it self has proven a point, lets wait and see what Microsoft has to offer next concerning this particular form factor.
